There is so much going on here in Trinity County these days.  This update covers some of the items that I want to highlight prior to my next pre-board meeting update.

Economic Development Public Workshop

The (newly formed) Trinity County Community Development Corporation (TCDC) is hosting a public workshop from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Thursday, July 19th.  The meeting will be held in the conference room of the Redding Rancheria location in Weaverville.

This meeting is open to anyone interested in economic development initiatives here in Trinity County.  We will be highlighting key initiatives that are building momentum and identifying new initiatives that could become eligible for funding through CERF – a new state-sponsored initiative.  Click here to RSVP

General Plan Survey

A new survey is available to support our General Plan efforts.  Residents are being asked to describe how they define the boundaries of their communities and to share their vision for the future of their communities.  Click here to take the survey.

County Budget Development Process

The board recently approved a preliminary budget.  Work continues on the development of the final budget which must be approved by the end of September.  As usual, the preliminary budget reflects requests for funding that are well beyond what we can afford at this time.  Meetings with each department head (and their financial representatives) are well underway.  These meetings provide the insight needed to identify the best ways to bring the final budget in line with what we can afford.  We completed nine meetings last week and have ten more meetings scheduled for next week.

Water Matters

We had a great turnout for the Town Hall Meeting in Trinity Center. It was a great opportunity to share information and (most importantly) to discuss the opportunities we have to influence the way water in Trinity County lakes, and rivers are managed.  Click here to read the “Water Matters” update.

The next key meeting on this subject – the “Trinity River Interested Party Technical Meeting” will be held on July 25 from 1-3.  This meeting is not open to the public.  However, we do have representation in this meeting… including representatives of the Trinity River Watershed Alliance.  Click here to learn more about this organization.

Tourism

I’ve seen some very exciting developments in the tourism arena.  The board recently voted to set aside additional funding for use in driving additional tourism.  A final decision about whether and how these funds are allocated will likely be made at the next board meeting – on July 18th.  The organizations that work on our behalf to drive tourism (Chambers of Commerce, Arts Council, Visitors Center, Visitors Bureau) will be sharing updates and making their (unified) pitch for the funding that has been set aside.  One key aspect of their proposal will be funding for a new Director of Tourism for Trinity County.

PG&E Roadwork – Trinity County | Highway 299

PG&E is planning to begin a project for the undergrounding of its infrastructure along State Route 299 in Trinity County in the Monument Fire footprint. Undergrounding efforts will take place along SR 299 near Burnt Ranch, from just east of Mill Creek Road to approximately 1.2 miles west of Big French Creek Bridge (#05-0008).

Construction is currently planned to begin on Tuesday, July 11th. Once construction efforts begin, motorists should plan for 24/7 traffic control with 15-minute delays, Mondays – Fridays during daytime hours, and up to 45-minute delays overnights and on weekends. The project is currently anticipated to be completed by the end of the year.

That’s it for this update. I hope you find these updates of value.  Please feel free to reach out if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions.
