Is it just me or does it seem like there are a lot more people complaining about Trinity County these days than there are people singing its praises? I’m not saying that it’s perfect here, but there is definitely something special about this place we call home.

After more than a dozen (career-driven) moves around the country my wife and I have experienced what life has to offer in the Midwest, South, Northeast, and Southwest. We have also been lucky enough to travel abroad quite a bit.

It’s safe to say that we found something to like (and dislike) about every area that we lived in and visited.

The place we visited most frequently over the years was Trinity County. Besides visiting family, we loved coming up here to enjoy all that the area has to offer.

We’ve now been residents of the area for just under five years … and we love it here.

So, for those of you who appreciate a “cup half full” view, here are a few things I love about Trinity County:

► people who prefer substance over style, making friends over networking, and life experiences over luxuries;

► the natural beauty that, if you give it a chance, feeds your soul;

► an abundance of amazing places to hike, bike, kayak, ski, boat, fish, tube, camp, swim, trail ride, relax;

► parades, fireworks, and community gatherings that are quaint … not claustrophobic;

► only one stoplight in over 3,000 square miles. Seriously, I have a “red light curse”… so this is a true blessing;

► some of the best curvy mountain roads for motorcycle rides that I’ve found;

► small business owners/operators who care enough to know your name … and to treat you right;

► the joy of four seasons … without the extremes we’ve experienced in other areas;

► easy access to rivers, lakes, oceans, mountains … the Redwoods;

► being close enough to enjoy all that a place like San Francisco has to offer … while being far enough away to not be affected by all that comes with it;

► did I mention natural beauty?

My list goes on and on … and I hope that yours does, too.
