This is an executive summary of my efforts on behalf of the county.  Each supervisor is asked to provide a verbal update during the board meeting.  I am using this template to also submit a (more comprehensive) written update that is available to the public.

UPCOMING BOARD MEETINGS

  • Board of Supervisors Meeting – Tuesday, 6.6.23 at 9:00 AM
  • There are a number of presentations (Pension Trusts, Probation Department, Clean California Monuments) and several important board decisions on the agenda – including re-allocation of funding for DOT projects, a letter requesting special dispensation for chinook salmon fishing on the Trinity River, and more.  There is also a Public Hearing regarding Unmet Transit Needs.

OUT-OF-COUNTY TRAVEL

  • Redding, CA for SCED Board Meeting on 5.18.23
  • Anderson, CA for NoRTEC Ad Hoc Committee Meeting on 6.5.23

COMMITTEE UPDATES

  • Airport Advisory Committee
    • Still working with DOT to schedule our first meeting of the year, update our website, etc.
    • There are Airport-related items on the 6.6.23 BOS Agenda.
  • Trinity County Commission On Aging
    • No activity.
  • Trinity County Fire Chiefs Association
    • Next meeting on 6.12.23
    • County-wide training initiative in June
  • California State Association of Counties (CSAC)
    • The AT HOME initiative to address homeliness was the major focus of the agenda(s)
      •  Our board still needs to decide how we will address this request.
    • National Center for Public Lands Counties
      •  Our board still needs to decide how we will address this request.
    • Acting State Fire Marshall | Chief Daniel Berlant
      • Reached someone who is providing assistance.
  • Remote Access Network Board (RAN Board)
    • Nothing new to report 
  • Sierra Nevada Conservancy 
    • The pre-board meeting was held on 5.22.23.  The board meeting took place on 6.1.23
    • I am collaborating with our Trinity County Resource Conservation District & Watershed leaders in preparation for these meetings.

Secondary Representative Role

  • Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC)
    • Nothing to report
  • Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO)
    • Nothing to report.
  • National Association Of Counties (NACO)
    • Nothing to report
  • North Coast Resource Partnership (NCIRWMP)
    • I may be involved in their strategic planning process.

OTHER BOARD ASSIGNMENTS

  • Cannabis Ordinance Ad Hoc Committee
    • Public workshops are planned to present information regarding the proposed updates.
    • An email address (cannabis.ordinance@trinitycounty.org) is available for submitting public input. These emails are automatically routed to each member of the ad hoc committee.
    • The Board approaved a resolution on 5.16 that streamlined the approval of applications for renewal of cannabis permits that require a commercial cannabis variance for the calendar year of 2023.
    • Weekly meetings continue.
  • Economic Development Ad Hoc Committee
    • Work continues on many fronts.  I shared a link via Facebook yesterday that takes users to a form that can be used to share ideas for moving Trinity County forward.  Input received via this form will go into a database that is being built to support our ongoing efforts.  Here is the link.
    • On 6.28.23, I will be representing Nick Goulette (Executive Director – Watershed Research & Training Center) at a steering committee meeting regarding the process for allocating CERF (Community Economic Resilience Fund) funding.
    • The TOT-funded partners continue their efforts to collaborate for greater impact.
  • Homeowners Insurance Ad Hoc Committee  – Complete
  • Strategic Plan Ad Hoc Committee – Complete
  • Cannabis Division Financials Ad Hoc Committee – Complete

OTHER ITEMS

  • Trinity Lake & River Releases
    • Work continues on several fronts. I will share additional information as it becomes available.
  • Frontier Communications Outages
    • We provided information regarding ongoing challenges to Frontier Communication’s CEO.
  • Community Action 
    • Lewiston Community Health & Safety Initiative – work is already underway to remove items in the Lewiston Subdivision – appliances, trash, vehicles.  This is all being funded and organized by community members.
