We have a number of very important initiatives underway right now. We will be discussing two of them during a special board meeting on Friday, September 30th at 10 AM.
Annual Budget
On Friday, the Board will be reviewing (what is hopefully) the final presentation for the 2022/2023 Annual Budget. Letty Garza, our Interim CAO, was asked to prepare a revised budget that reflects a $1 million reduction in revenue from Cannabis Licensing Fees along with related reductions in expenses. Trinity County’s fiscal year starts on July 1st and ends on June 30th.
Strategic Plan
The Board will also receive a presentation regarding the Trinity County Strategic Plan that has been under development for some time. The expectation is that this plan reflects not only the very high level view of strategic priorities, but also the plans of County Departments that have responsibility and authority to deliver on these priorities.
Strategic Plans often live only on the pages of the document that is filed away after being created. My hope is that we will use this plan in a much different way. Ideally, it will be used regularly as the basis for establishing and maintaining strong clarity, alignment, focus, transparency, and accountability for our shared efforts to move the county forward.
Placemaking
Work is wrapping up on our Trinity County Placemaking initiative. One definition of Placemaking is ”the process of creating quality places that people want to live, work, play, and learn in.” The community input gathered during this initiative helped shape the proposals that will be put forward in our “playbook” for Trinity County. You can review the summary of community input on the website created for this initiative. Here is the link to an article I wrote about this back in March. The article includes a brief description of this initiative and a link to the website where final results will be posted in the coming weeks.
General Plan
The multi-year effort to create a new General Plan is underway. The General Plan is hugely important and will benefit greatly from strong community input and involvement. You can learn more about this important initiative with this link.
Regional Transportation Plan
Work on our new Regional Transportation Plan has been underway this year. There were a number of opportunities for public input this year. The latest projection was for an update in December of this year. You can learn more about this important initiative via this link.
