This joint session of the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission was the latest in a series of public engagement opportunities regarding the new Housing Element of our General Plan. Staff and a representative of the consulting firm shared an overview of the plan, answered questions, highlighted input from (and responses to) the public and HCD (Housing and Community Development).
A. COUNTY MATTERS
A.1. Community Development – Planning – Conduct a workshop to review the Housing Element before submission to the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). No fiscal impact.

- Trinity County already provided the public review draft to HCD – which is the entity that must approve the document. Their comments are included in the backup material. These comments will be addressed in the version we submit for the first formal review.

Next Steps – Spring and Summer 2025
▪ Review public comments and take direction from the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors
▪ Revise the Housing Element to respond to public and HCD comments and County direction (minimum of 10 business days)
▪ Submit the Housing Element to HCD for initial formal review (90 days)
▪ Receive HCD comments on the Housing Element
▪ Revise and resubmit the Housing Element to HCD for a second formal review (60 days)

- Appreciation was offered for all the work done by staff to bring us to this point.
- Requested information regarding discussions with developers
Commission & Board Discussion
- There was ample opportunity for discussion. As outlined in the “next steps” section above, there will be additional opportunities for input from the public, the Planning Commission, and the Board of Supervisors.
