A. COUNTY MATTERS
A.1. Human Resources – Conduct oral interviews of five (5) candidates to fill the Trinity County Clerk/Recorder/Assessor/Registrar of Voters position for the unexpired term ending December 31, 2026. No fiscal impact.
- The Board of Supervisors has the responsibility and authority to appoint someone to fill a vacancy for other elected positions within Trinity County.
- Shanna White is retiring at the end of this year, leaving one full year to be filled by an appointee.
- This positiion will be on the June 2026 elections ballot – with the winner of the election assuming office on January 1, 2027.
- Staff conducted the open recruiting process and presented the board with candidates. Five were scheduled for interviews. One of the candidates cancelled on the day of the interviews.
- Supervisor Heidi Carpenter-Harris led the interview process, asking each candidate the same questions.
- Supervisors recorded notes and ratings to help them rank candidates
- At the end of the interviews, each Supervisor shared their top candidate.
- The top candidate, Elle Sharp, has extensive experience with elections (and more) in California and Nevada. Below is an excerpt from her application.
- A motion was made for staff to make a conditional offer to Elle Sharp pending the results of background and reference checks.
- The board voted unanimously to approve this motion.
