I had the great honor and pleasure of launching this new technology solutions business in 2013.

Hired in the fourth quarter of 2012, I was challenged with bringing a new business to the marketplace as part of Choice Hotel’s strategic growth initiatives. I Led all aspects of bringing this new business and product to market – introducing the new company, brand and product to the marketplace in just 6 months.

We quickly built an entrepreneurial leadership team and culture – creating strong credibility and momentum in the marketplace. The organization was recognized as one of the most promising technology solutions providers by CIO Review in 2014 and was highlighted in CFO Magazine for our commitment and approach to innovation.

Pegasus Solutions is a leading provider of technology and services to hotels and travel distributors

I had the great opportunity to lead comprehensive cultural change incorporating a unique brand perception study and the collaborative development and rollout of vision, mission, values and corporate goals – achieving a 35% increase in brand image.

We drove significant new revenue streams and generated notable industry recognition (2011 Stevie Award for Best New Product or Service of the Year, Top 50 on 2010 Information Week 500 and CIO 2010 Magazine 100 Award).

As COO, I was the leader of all customer-facing groups including Strategic Planning, Product Strategy & Support, Customer Support & Voice Services, Professional Services, Marketing & Communications, Revenue Generation, Sales, Business Development.

Utell Hotels & Resorts

Global Hotel Representation

Utell Hotels & Resorts is the world’s most experienced hotel representation service providing a specialized range of powerful sales, marketing and distribution solutions for hotels and travel distributors.

Working with team members across the globe we increased media coverage by a factor of 10 and marketing program rate of return by 20% while reducing marketing spending by more than 50%.

As president, I led changes in structure, development and application of resources to increase our new sales pipeline by more than 300%. We also increased customer satisfaction and employee engagement while reducing operating expenses by 34%.

It was a great experience to work with customers in over 100 countries and the team members serving them in 18 offices around the globe.

Technology Start Up

EventSpark™ is a visual discovery tool that beautifully showcases hotel, resort, restaurant and other unique venue event spaces.

You can use it to find the perfect space for weddings, parties, socials, meetings, and celebrations.

I had the pleasure of providing strategic guidance to (CEO) Todd Arviso and his very entrepreneurial team during the initial start up period. It was a great pleasure to help shape the company’s vision, mission, values, strategic plans and go-to-market plans. I am currently leading an organizational reboot.

Best Western

Senior VP | 2002 to 2008

World's Largest Hotel Brand

Best Western International, Inc. has more than †4,000 hotels in over †100 countries and territories worldwide.

I held a number of different positions at Best Western. As a member of the corporate executive team I interfaced regularly with the Board of Directors. My responsibilities included $40 million P&L accountability, an $8+ million regional marketing budget and a $3+ million online marketing budget.

My team was successful in identifying and capturing $7+ million in operational efficiencies and boosting revenue from online sales 250+% within 24 months. We generated $900,000 in annual expense reductions and accelerated time-to-market by initiating the company’s first application of enterprise content management solution.

Trilegiant

EVP & General Manager | 1999 to 2002

Marketing Services

Trilegiant is now known as “Affinion” – The global leader in customer engagement.

As Executive VP and General Manager I held P&L accountability for $750 million in annual revenue, and was responsible for 15 core membership programs with 25 individual offerings.

My team included 1,900 employees in five operating sites — provided marketing services and benefits to 8+ million members/customers of corporate partner clients.

As CEO of Cendant Travel I led a travel agency generating $1 billion in annual sales revenue with 1700 employees. Our team generated a $17 million improvement in EBITDA by successfully driving business and process improvements across each product-based strategic business unit.

Senior VP | 1989 to 1999

Global Diversified Enterprise

Cendant was a $22 billion global diversified enterprise including Membership-Based Services, Travel Services, Marketing Service and Hotel Marketing Services.

During our growth years I simultaneously held positions as VP, Senior VP, President & CEO (of business units within the parent company. I served as CEO of Central Credit, Inc. – a $7 million EBITDA business in the highly complex and regulated gaming industry, concurrent to serving as president of RCI Travel and Senior Vice President of all call center operations.

My team included a high-volume (30 million calls per year) call center organization with 5,000 people in as many as nine locations in U.S. and Canada, supporting RCI Travel and a network of eight hotel companies (Days Inn, Ramada, Howard Johnson, Travelodge, Super 8 — 5,000+ properties combined).

AT&T

Director | 1983 to 1991

Telecommunications

AT&T was – at the time – one of the largest companies in the world.

I joined AT&T out of college in an entry level manager position. As a member of the AT&T Leadership Development Program, I eventually held eight field and corporate staff positions in sales, marketing and sales management.

These assignments reflected steadily growing responsibility and included opportunities to work at corporate headquarters, regional headquarters and local offices in Kansas City, MO – Basking Ridge, NJ – Atlanta, GA – Lexington, KY – Phoenix, AZ.

United States Marine Corps

Sergeant | September 1977 to August 1980

Semper Fi

My time with the Marines was brief but rewarding. I was proud to be selected as the company honor graduate during Marine Corps recruit training (boot camp) and to receive the Leatherneck Award.

Later I was nominated to (and accepted by) the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis). I chose to complete my college studies outside of the military.

After being promoted four times in three years, I left active duty as a Sergeant (E5) to complete my undergraduate studies in Marketing & Human Resources.

Corporate Social Responsibility

My work experience crosses a number of different industries, disciplines and regions of the world.  To date,  a combination of business and personal travels have already taken me to hundreds of cities in more than 30 countries.  It’s been such an honor to learn from so many people around the globe.  I look forward to seeing where the journey takes me next.

Giving back has always been important to me.  With more exposure to the huge number of opportunities to make a difference and to impact organizational priorities, I find Corporate Social Responsibility of growing importance to me as an individual and as a leader.
